URGENT APPEAL on behalf of Seaton Hospital

Seaton and Colyton’s new County Councillor, Martin Shaw, has launched an urgent community crowdfunding appeal to support a judicial review of the decision to close Seaton Hospital’s beds. Councillor Shaw says: “Solicitors are preparing a letter before action to send to the NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group by the end of this week, giving the case why their decision-making was unflawed. However Seaton Town Council has decided that it cannot underwrite the costs of this first stage of judicial review. The Hospital League of Friends are prevented by their constitution from underwriting them, but they have opened a special bank account and a BT MyDonate site to collect funds for a review. Cllr Shaw said

“I have therefore decided to launch an urgent appeal to raise the £20,000 needed to fund this first stage of a review, and I am asking everyone in the area who cares about the hospital keeping its beds to donate this weekend so that I can go to the solicitors on Monday morning and say that we have the funds to take this forward. I am putting in £1000 of my own money and I will use the rest of my councillor’s allowance of £10,000 to underwrite this campaign while donations come in. However we need donations, large and small, in the next 48 hours, if we are going to be able to proceed on Monday.”

The Seaton Hospital and District League of Friends fundraising site is at https://mydonate.bt.com/donation/start.html?charity=129867 and in order to donate for judicial review, you must write ‘judicial review’ in the ‘personalise your donation’ box. It is also important that you email Cllr Shaw cllrmartinshaw@gmail.com to inform him of your donation, so that he knows how much money has been raised.

IF you want to do this you need to act NOW.

This series aims to change lives!

Boundless – the makers of Grand Designs, Escape to the Country and Great British Railway journeys – are making a warm, genuine series about people who are seriously looking to change their lives and find love.

They are currently looking for rural singletons of all ages , backgrounds and gender who are looking for love. It might be that they are struggling to find a partner due to living in an isolated area or they have an all-consuming work life, or they may have been divorced or widowed and are looking for love a second time round.

This brand new series will paint a picture of modern Britain and will bring people together from different walks of life, giving singletons who live in the countryside a chance to meet a wider rnge of eligible partners then they would in their local area.

EDDC publishes the Villages Plan and the heritage impact assessment on Musbury

The East Devon Villages Plan defines the ‘Built-up Area Boundary’ (BUAB) for Musbury and the other ‘sustainable’  villages. It should be read alongside the East Devon Local Plan 2013 – 2031, which was adopted in January 2016 and sets the planning strategy for East Devon. You can see the Proposed Musbury BUAB here

EDDC is inviting ‘representations’ on these proposals on its comments form until noon on 10 May 2017.

EDDC has also prepared a Heritage Impact Report which you can view here heritage-assessment-musbury-publication

The Musbury Parish Council response to earlier consultation sought the inclusion of part of Baxters Farm (now included) and the continuing exclusion of Mountfield ( which is now included. EDDC says ‘the open nature of this land coupled with its topography, tree cover and relationship with neighbouring listed buildings makes it unlikely that it will be suitable for development, except in exceptional circumstances’).

NHS Discussion Events on Acute Hospital services

The NHS in Devon is working on a five-year plan for health and care services. This is known as the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).

They  are holding a series of events across Devon to discuss the first stage of this work – a review of acute services. There are no specific proposals for service change at this stage.

The NHS  wants to talk to people about the criteria we use, and listen to your views and experiences, ahead of the launch of any proposals, likely to be in summer 2017.

This review may affect services at our four acute and district hospitals in Devon:

 Derriford Hospital (Plymouth)

 North Devon District Hospital (Barnstaple)

 Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

 Torbay Hospital

The three events in the Eastern area are at

  • Monday 6 March 10:30 – 12:30 New Hall, Barrington Street, Tiverton, EX16 6QP
  • Monday 13 March 18:00 – 20:00 The Canteen, The King’s School, Cadhay Lane, Ottery St Mary, EX11 1RA
  • Monday 20 March 18:30 – 20:30 Exeter Corn Exchange, Market Street, Exeter, EX1 1BW
