Joseph Paxton – from Chatsworth to the Crystal Palace

Musbury Garden Club welcomes back Dr Don Archer who will tell the inspirational life story of gardener/architect/entrepreneur Joseph Paxton. A multi-talented individual whose influence is still felt today.

Joseph Paxton started as a garden labourer and flourished as gardener to the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth. In his career he designed the building for the Great Exhibition of 1851, Mentmore for the Rothchilds and Birkenhead Park, the first public park un the country. Later knighted and M.P. for Coventry. he was a friend and confidant of most of the influential people of the Victorian age. He could be said to be one of the first celebrity gardeners.

The talk will start as usual at 7.30 pm
