Open Campaign Meeting about the Seaton Beds Closures

Seaton’s Cllr Martin Shaw has organised an open meeting to be held in Marshlands, Harbour Rd, Seaton, to discuss preparation for an important meeting to be held in Exeter about the proposed closure of the beds at Seaton Hospital.

He hopes as many people as possible from all over the area will come. This will also be an opportunity for a general discussion of the future of the campaign to reverse the decision.

The Exeter meeting will be held on Monday 19 June at 2.15 in County Hall . At this meeting  Devon County Council’s Health and Adult Care Scrutiny Committee will consider their response to NEW Devon CCG’s closure decision. This will be in the light of the CCG’s reply to the 14 questions the Scrutiny Committee asked them. The correspondence should be made public in the papers for the meeting, which will be available online about a week beforehand.

The Committee has the legal power to refer the CCG’s decision to the Secretary of State for Health. Their resolution passed on 7 March proposed to make such a referral unless the questions were answered to the Committee’s satisfaction. This is therefore local people’s  main opportunity to make the CCG change the decision to remove beds from Seaton. 

Cllr Shaw intends to speak at the meeting. It is also open to members of the public to speak, and he believes it would be in the local  interests to have a strong presence from the Seaton and Axminster area, both in the meeting and possibly in the form of a protest outside.
